About Halcyon Jewelry

Halcyon Jewelry transports you to a world steeped in symbolism, magic, and poetry.

Drawing inspiration from the otherworldly tales of mythology and folklore, art history, poetry, and ancient architecture to conjure wearable, precious art. These timeless themes lend an ageless element to each design.

The intimate quality and longevity of jewelry and its ability to act as a vessel for life history and storytelling is what has made jewelry an integral piece of humankind for millennia. Our hope is that Halcyon Jewelry transcends the physical world and becomes part of the personal history of the wearer — evoking feelings of warm nostalgia and joy.

The Myth

Halcyon Jewelry takes its name from the Greek myth of Alcyone and Ceyx.

Alcyone, daughter of Aeolus, threw herself into the sea upon hearing of the death of her beloved, Ceyx.

Touched by the couple’s enduring love, the gods on Olympus agree to turn the lovers into “halcyon birds”, also known as kingfishers. The gods ceased the wind from blowing and bestowed upon the pair calm seas on which to build their nest.

The expression “halcyon days” refers to the fourteen days around the winter solstice when the winds are calm enough for the kingfisher bird to build a nest, lay her eggs, and nurture her young.

Halcyon is a time of peace, calm, and prosperity.

The Journey

“Growing up in the home of a sculptor and poet, all of my wildest artistic dreams were entertained and encouraged. Much of my young life was spent with my drawing pad and pencils, absorbing language and lyrics of poetry and folksongs.

As a young girl, one of my favorite activities was to unpack my mother’s many jewelry boxes, spreading out all the treasure on her bed. Slowly, we would sift through the silver and gold and my mother would recall the story of each and every piece of jewelry.

Studying Art History gave me a great reverence and appreciation for the mesmerizing world I had been surrounded by growing up. Unearthing the deeper meaning behind ancient art and architecture and the many days spent watching my father carve granite left an indelible impression on my spirit and fueled my desire to find a medium that spoke to my soul.

After a frustrating period of stagnation in my early 20s, I finally enrolled myself in an Introduction to Jewelry course which altered the path of my life. From the first spark of the striker, I knew my future would be pathed with the tender beauty of jewelry.

Halcyon Jewelry was conceived in 2014 and has taken a life of its own since.”
